ABSTRACT

Nowadays health care services became one of the most important issues that directly affect the community. Hospitals take a large part in health services. Among many hospitals, the health care quality of the hospital affects this choice when patients choose the hospital where they will be treated. Hospitals which provides health care services work with shift system. The biggest problem of working with the shift system is the constant change of working hours and unbalanced workload, which affects employees negatively. The fatigue and carelessness of the employees -especially nurses- carry a vital risk for the patients. Nurse scheduling in hospitals is done manually by the responsible nurse in the relevant department, which takes about 10 hours and is often imbalanced in workload. In this study, a 0-1 Goal Programming (GP) model is developed for nurse scheduling problem. The model was implemented in a state hospital in Kırıkkale. Current situation and proposed situation which is the result of the model are compared. . As a result of the proposed model, nurse's demands have considered, scheduling not only purified from manuel operations and also workload has distributed optimally among nurses.
